Because my own help center was a nightmare
I'm Christina, and I've been building Amazing Marvin, a productivity app, since 2017. I love making the product better, and over the years we shipped release after release: new features, redesigns, a whole new mobile app. The help center didn't keep up.
We have around a hundred features and more than a hundred tutorial videos, and every release made a few more of them slightly wrong. Updating them was the job that always got pushed to next week.
Search made it worse. If someone typed "smartlist" instead of "smart list", it didn't find the article. So many searches came back empty, and those people either emailed us or gave up.
I was using Intercom, one of the most popular help center tools. It was expensive, and docs felt like an afterthought. It didn't have the features or the customization I needed, and it kept pushing us toward live chat. We're a small team and can't staff a chat. I just wanted people to be able to email us, and I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted.
I wanted a help center that's built around docs and keeps up with how fast we ship. So I built one. Haven is what I use for Amazing Marvin's own docs, and now you can use it too.
